On July 15, 2024, 92 golfers gathered at Marshall Golf Club for the Pride in the Tiger Foundation event, which aimed to provide opportunities for kids raising $20,000.to support the Teacher Impact Grant program, which assists Marshall’s public and private schools. During the 2023-24 school year, the Foundation awarded $105,000 to educators in Marshall. The tournament’s success is attributed to months of planning by the Board of Directors and the support of local businesses. Before the game, golfers enjoyed a burger bar donated by Performance Foods and warm Subway cookies. HyVee donated water to keep the golfers cool during the warm afternoon of golf. Golfers received a gift sponsored by Jana Reilly Home Team – Keller Williams Realty.
The event featured various games with prizes donated by local businesses. Borch’s sponsored a Hole in One contest, and although no one holed out, those who made it to the green received a nice gift card. Golfers also participated in putting and chipping contests throughout the day. The chipping winners, Cat Bennett, and Ryan Snodgrass received a full car detail from Shine Center and a fire pit from Ace Home and Hardware. Cassi Weiss emerged as the champion of the putting contest, winning a Yeti cooler donated by Runnings.
Marshall Boy’s Golf team member Deacon Wing assisted teams with powerful drives on hole seven, giving teams an advantage on the long hole. Marshall Golf Club donated hole prizes for golfers who made long putts or had the longest drive.
The winning team was the Ecowater Team, comprised of players Landon Frost, Ethan VanHauwert, Noah Puetz, and Dawson Burke. The Marshall Area Chamber team, consisting of Brad Gruhot, Jeremy Gossen, Eric Eben, and Mike VanDrehle, came in second. Marshall Radio’s team won the random draw.
In conjunction with the tournament, the Foundation held its annual raffle. The winners were:
- Bob Jacobson – 1-year unlimited car washes donated by Shine Center
- Quentin Fixen – $500
- Bill Swope – $250
- Alice Hanson – $250
